PositionJob SummaryThe Logistics Supervisor is responsible for the
oversight, development and leadership of highly skilled front-line
operators and ensuring the delivery of products and supplies with
an empowered organization. As part of a global and dynamic
organization, with customers all over the world, the Logistics
Supervisor performs an important role in achieving our global
logistics business goals by keeping up with global regulations and
market trends. This role ensures proper utilization of logistics
resources, availability and flow of materials and finished goods
for our organization, our manufacturing operations and the end
customer, our patients. This role provides oversight for all onsite
and offsite logistics operations personnel and all activities under
the logistics umbrella, including export/import compliance,
packaging design, transportation management and inventory control.
With a continuous improvement mindset, the Logistics Supervisor is
responsible for partnering with leadership teams, global
procurement management, the global Roche logistics network and
external service providers to drive efficiencies through the
optimization of internal and external logistics functions to meet
corporate and local objectives. Responsibilities:People
Leadership/Development
- Leads by empowering direct reports; provides coaching, training
and opportunities to develop skills, and gives ongoing,
constructive and timely feedback on performance and progress toward
goals and expectations.
- Helps direct reports build the skills and mindset needed to
succeed in an open system. Serves as a mentor in developing
individual contributors into highly skilled technical operators
and/or people leaders.
- Manages employee performance (contribution, attendance and
timekeeping, quality, etc.) through contribution check-ins, the
annual review process and ongoing feedback, and takes corrective
action when necessary.
- Optimizes staffing and conducts workforce planning to match
current and future business demands.
- Maintains visibility and presence in the areas of
operation.
- Establishes and monitors team cross-training expectations.
- Hires, onboards and trains new team members.Production
- Responsible for logistics deliverables in the areas of export
compliance, inventory management, transportation spend and product
delivery. Sets daily, weekly and monthly goals and aligns
deliverables for shifts and processes.
- Supervises, leads, plans, schedules and coordinates
project/team activities. Conducts formal meetings, tracks
project/production statuses, evokes quick decision making and
resolves communication barriers.
- Oversees receipt, warehousing, distribution and the
transportation of incoming and outgoing products within established
schedule and budget targets.
- Determines resource requirements and allocation by utilizing
personnel, onsite/offsite contractors and outsourcing vendors to
complete required elements of daily operations and projects on time
and within budget.
- Effectively collaborates with Global Functions and Business
Areas for product launches and global transportation initiatives.
Interfaces with other functional groups to gain alignment in the
implementation of new processes and for ongoing support and
resolving problems.
- Maintains the flow of material in accordance with established
manufacturing schedules, lead-times, processing times, order
policies and compliance with global transportation requirements and
initiatives.
- Intentionally forms teams, networks and systems that enable
action. Supports the team to make effective decisions and coaches
them on how to move forward.
- Thoroughly understands the end-to-end supply chain
processes.Continuous Improvement
- Creates a lean culture by empowering a workforce to provide and
implement ideas to continuously improve and reduce waste.
- Acts as a change agent and drives a culture of continuous
improvement by actively demonstrating the use of lean manufacturing
tools in everything the team does.
- Collects data, trends and evaluates metrics (e.g. safety,
quality, cost, delivery, people) to support Key Performance
Indicators (KPIs).
- Accountable for the logistics area's continuous improvement and
lean initiatives. Utilizes metrics to recommend logistics
initiatives and improvement projects.
- Prepares presentations and reports to implement process
improvements.Teamwork and Collaboration
- Collaborates with support functions to drive value stream, lean
manufacturing improvement and global projects/ initiatives.
- Proactively collaborates with peers in other shifts/functions
Safety and Quality
- Operates with a safety and quality mindset.
- Maintains knowledge of regulations related to import/export
compliance, trade of goods and transportation including those
related to hazardous shipments, employee safety and freight
classifications.
- Maintains quality system compliance (e.g., follows processes
and procedures as written) for self and direct reports by ensuring
compliance with applicable corporate policies and procedures,
regulatory and quality requirements, and adherence to Standard
Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Addresses, escalates and resolves any potentially unsafe
hazards; reports and investigates safety hazards, incidents and
near misses utilizing the required safety platform in a timely
manner. In partnership with the Safety department, responsible for
corrective and preventive measure implementation.
- Participates in area audits. Ensures nonconformance reports and
CAPAs are completed in the appropriate timeframe to ensure
availability of supply.
- Maintains current process information and documentation per
internal and external guidelines.
- Leads quality failure, root cause and corrective action
investigations with other departments.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of functional area
SOPs.Business Strategy
- Assists in the implementation of new Diagnostics Global
Operations and Pathology Customer Area strategies, projects and
initiatives.
- Aligns with Roche procurement counterparts to negotiate,
develop and maintain agreed upon transportation and warehousing
strategies in compliance with Global Supply Chain quality
standards.
- Participates in and leads global strategic initiatives to
improve business performance and culture and customer
satisfaction.
- Maintains knowledge of best practices, including the most
efficient and cost-effective storage and transportation
methods.
- Provides feedback to Global Procurement on
transportation/warehousing provider performance.
- Negotiates and secures contracts with transportation and
warehouse service providers.Self-Development
- Identifies development opportunities in current role and builds
actionable plans to improve in areas of opportunity.
- Owns development plan, ongoing maintenance of plan and ongoing
career discussions with leader.Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Supply Chain certification from accredited association
preferred.
- 7 years of relevant experience in a logistics/supply chain
operations environment or related field, of which 3 years include
process, people or project leadership experience (required).Second
Shift requirements hours/differential:
- Monday - Friday (Weekends as necessary)
- Shift start time 2pm
- Shift end time 11 pm
