Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the supervision of a licensed
Occupational Therapist (OT) to assist in providing rehabilitation
services to individuals with physical, mental, or developmental
conditions that affect their ability to perform everyday
activities. The COTA helps patients improve motor skills, cognitive
abilities, and daily living tasks to enhance their independence and
quality of life. /n/nKey Responsibilities:/n /n 1. /n Implementing
Treatment Plans: /n /n - Assist in carrying out the treatment plans
designed by the Occupational Therapist. /n - Provide therapeutic
activities to help patients regain skills necessary for daily
living and working. /n - Conduct exercises, tasks, and activities
aimed at improving motor skills, strength, and range of motion. /n
- Use adaptive equipment and assistive devices as prescribed by the
OT to promote patient independence. /n /n /n 2. /n Patient
Evaluation Support: /n /n - Assist in the initial and ongoing
evaluation of patients by gathering information about their
abilities, progress, and challenges. /n - Collect data, take notes,
and report observations to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
/n - Monitor patient progress and provide feedback to assist in
modifying treatment plans as necessary. /n /n /n 3. /n Therapy
Sessions: /n /n - Lead individual and group therapy sessions to
help patients develop skills in self-care, work, and leisure
activities. /n - Encourage patients during therapy and assist them
with exercises and other activities to improve their physical,
emotional, and cognitive abilities. /n - Work on developing fine
motor skills, improving balance, and enhancing hand-eye
coordination in patients. /n /n /n 4. /n Patient Education: /n /n -
Educate patients and their families on how to perform therapeutic
exercises or tasks at home to continue progress outside of therapy
sessions. /n - Teach adaptive techniques for daily living
activities (e.g., dressing, cooking, grooming) to enhance
independence. /n - Provide guidance on proper posture, ergonomics,
and safe mobility practices to prevent injury and enhance function.
/n /n /n 5. /n Documentation and Record Keeping: /n /n - Document
patient progress, goals, and treatment results in compliance with
healthcare regulations and organizational policies. /n - Complete
progress notes and assist in the preparation of reports,
maintaining up-to-date patient records. /n - Ensure all
documentation complies with HIPAA and confidentiality standards. /n
/n /n 6. /n Collaboration with Healthcare Team: /n /n - Communicate
regularly with the supervising Occupational Therapist, physicians,
nurses, and other healthcare team members to ensure coordinated
care. /n - Provide input on patient progress and assist in the
development of treatment plans in collaboration with the OT. /n -
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to patient
care discussions and planning. /n /n /n 7. /n Equipment and
Facility Maintenance: /n /n - Maintain and clean therapy equipment
and adaptive tools used during treatment sessions. /n - Ensure the
therapy space is organized and safe for patients and staff. /n -
Monitor and maintain stock levels of therapy supplies and
equipment. /n /n /n 8. /n Promoting a Positive Therapeutic
Environment: /n /n - Create a positive and encouraging atmosphere
for patients, fostering motivation and engagement in therapy. /n -
Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients, especially
those who may be facing challenges in their recovery. /n /n /n 9.
/n Adherence to Safety and Infection Control Protocols: /n /n -
Follow all infection control and safety guidelines to ensure a safe
treatment environment for both patients and staff. /n - Ensure that
patients follow proper safety protocols, especially when using
